What Makes Us Unique
Lakeland Catholic School Division provides a faith-based, public education for our students. Our Board of Trustees serves as the voice of Catholic education in our Division, advocating at the provincial level to ensure the preservation of publicly funded Catholic schools.
Trustees’ Responsibilities
Trustees are entrusted with ensuring that our school division operates within the educational and financial guidelines outlined by the government, in alignment with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. They are accountable to parents, students, and the broader community, while also supporting the faith formation of our school families.
The LCSD Board of Trustees is responsible for:
Approving the Division’s Capital Plan
Approving the Division's Yearly Calendar
Reviewing and Approving Audited Financial Statements
Approving the Three-Year Education Plan
Hiring the Superintendent

Key Roles of LCSD Trustees
Goal Setter
Trustees provide leadership by establishing the Division’s mission, vision, and strategic goals. The Board ensures that the Superintendent is accountable for achieving these goals, with regular evaluations based on measurable outcomes.
Policy Maker
Trustees develop and approve governance policies that guide the division toward high levels of achievement and operational excellence.
Communicator
Trustees engage with stakeholders, including the Bishop, parents, government officials, and the Catholic community, to ensure open dialogue and strong relationships across all levels of the Division.
Advocate
Trustees advocate for publicly funded Catholic education at the provincial level. This includes ensuring adequate resources for educational programs, facilities, and infrastructure to support student success.
Role Model
Trustees exemplify Catholic values by serving as role models for students, staff, and the greater community, maintaining a positive image at the local, provincial, and national levels.
Advocacy
The Board of Trustees actively participates in initiatives that highlight and preserve the value of Catholic education. This includes collaborating with organizations such as the Alberta Catholic School Trustees Association and the Alberta School Boards Association, as well as supporting directives from the Bishops of Alberta. Advocacy efforts are guided by the Board’s annual Advocacy Plan, which outlines specific strategies for promoting and sustaining Catholic education.
