Official Enrolments
Lakeland Catholic’s official enrolments are in, and the division is experiencing an increase of just shy of four per cent.
This year, there are 2,701 students attending Kindergarten to Grade 12 at Lakeland Catholic Schools, as well as 139 Pre-Kindergarten students, for a total of 2,840.
Five LCSD schools have seen growth from last year with Assumption seeing the largest increase, after growing from 543 students in 2022-23 to 631 this year, an increase of 88 students.
“This is wonderful news, and it speaks volumes to the incredible programming we are offering at our schools,” said Board Chair Mary Anne Penner.
Holy Family Catholic School Update
Planning is underway for a new building for Holy Family Catholic School.
The division met with representatives from the architectural firm in charge of the project, as well as Alberta Education and Alberta Infrastructure. The meeting included a tour and review of the current school.
In addition to working with the province on the project, Lakeland Catholic is reaching out to the Village of Waskatenau to discuss partnering in constructing a daycare centre and library at the school.
The project is in the preliminary stages of planning, with a footprint of the design expected to be completed this year.
Arruda would like to collect feedback from teachers regarding lockers, furniture, and technology, among other aspects of the project.
“I think that’s a great idea, they’re the ones who are going to be working in there - they know what they need to best serve our students,” said trustee Vicky Lefebvre.
