École Notre Dame Elementary
Reading Cafe
École Notre Dame Elementary hosted their first Reading Cafe. The school transformed the library into a cafe with soft music, coffee, tea, and snacks.
Families were encouraged to stop by, grab a book, and read together.
This event aligns with Goal Two: Student Success.
Reading Challenge
Continuing to promote reading outside of the classroom, the school held a reading challenge. Each class submitted their top reader for the chance to win a prize. As a result of the challenge, many classes had more student engage in reading at home.

Métis Week
During Métis Week, students participated in creating Métis Dot Art. The school also invited their Indigenous Outreach Worker to speak with classes on Métis culture and traditions.

École Notre Dame High
Take Our Kids to Work Day
Over 95 per cent of Grade 9 students participated in Take Our Kids to Work Day. This aligns with Goal Two: Student Success.
No Stone Left Alone
Students participated in the No Stone Left Alone ceremony, laying poppies on the headstones of former military members.
This aligns with Goal One; Catholic Christian Identity.
Volleyball
In November, the boys' and girls' volleyball teams found success on the court.
- Sr. Boy’s Volleyball team won the Bronze Medal at 2A Zones
- Sr. Girl’s Volleyball team won the Gold Medal at 2A Zones
- Sr. Girl’s Volleyball team placed 4th at the ASAS 2A Volleyball Provincials
Holy Cross Elementary
Read-a-Thon
Students are participating in a Read-a-Thon fundraiser, hosted by the Parent Advisory Council.
Each class was tasked to read 12,000 minutes in November. A map displayed of Canada highlighted each classroom’s progress. The first class to complete the challenge of reading all the way to Halifax, Nova Scotia won a pizza party.
In total, $4,500 was raised through the Read-a-Thon. These funds will be used to assist in covering the cost of field trips.

Remembrance Day
The school community came together to honour those who serve in the Canadian military through a Remembrance Day Ceremony.
Sgt. Proctor, Father Nong, Mr. Todd Farrell and Capt. Michael Lachance joined the school and laid wreaths. Sgt. Proctor made a presentation about her military experience.

Métis Week
Staff and students learned about Métis people and their history during Métis Week. In addition to learning how to jig, students created Métis-inspired dot art, listened to stories, and learned about the significance of the Métis sash.
Mrs. MacNiven’s Kindergarten class enjoyed homemade bannock.

St. Dominic Elementary
Making Wreaths
The St. Dominic Elementary and St. Dominic Parish communities spent time on a Saturday morning to create wreaths for the Advent Season.

Career Day
Students at St. Dominic Elementary were treated to special parent visitors in November.
Peace Officers and RCMP officers shared information and stories about their careers with students.
This aligns with Goal Two: Student Success.
Kehewin Dancers
Dancers from Kehewin Cree Nation performed for the school in November. Their performance included the Woman’s Northern Traditional Dance, a Woman’s Crow Dance, a Woman’s Jingle Dress Dance, Two Men’s Fancy Dance, and Two Men’s Chicken Dance.

Assumption Jr/Sr High
No Stone Left Alone
Grade 11 and 12 students participated in the No Stone Left Alone program, which honours veterans by placing poppies on their headstones at local cemeteries.

Unified Sports Bean Bag Competition
Assumption Jr/Sr High School participated in a regional bean bah tournament hosted at the Cold Lake Energy Centre on November 7.

Youth Group
Students in Grades 7 through 11 met for prayer, games, and to work on their service project making Christmas cards for seniors.

Light of Christ
Walk for Hope
Many classes from Light of Christ participated in the Walk for Hope on November 3 in support of bringing awareness to help end domestic violence. World-renowned Hooper Dancer Dallas Arcand performed and spoke as part of the event.

Artistic Recognition
Grade 11 student Shylit-Rae was recognized for her artistic talent after her artwork was selected for the Lakeland Catholic’s Division Collaboration Day. This year’s theme was Let in the Light. For winning the contest, Shylit-Rae received a framed photo if her submission and a gift card.

Bishop Franken
Light of Christ hosted a Parish Supper that was organized to welcome Bishop Gary Franken to the Diocese.

Holy Family Catholic
Volleyball
This year, the school’s volleyball program has grown with junior high teams as well as a high school boys’ team. The school is able to keep spots fees reasonable for families thanks to two donations, one from the community of over $1,600 and another from the Waskatenau Minor Sports for $1,000.

Candle Light Service
The school held a candle light service for Remembrance Day, which aligns with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity.
Family Dodgeball
Family Dodgeball Night was a hit at Holy Family. The decision to host a fun-filled dynamic event was made by the school council.
