LAKELAND - Enriching the lives of students and helping them delve deeper into their faith are just some of the opportunities Gerarda Germain looks forward to most in her future career as Religious Education Coordinator with Lakeland Catholic School Division.
“It is a blessing to be able to freely express our faith through our teaching and daily encounters within a Catholic Education framework where youth can witness the acts of Jesus though us,” Germain said.
Hailing from Prince Edward Island, Germain earned a Bachelor of Secondary Education and Bachelor of Physical Education (Kinesiology/Rec Management) from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. After working as a recreation coordinator in the remote Indigenous community of Fort Norman, Northwest Territories, she began teaching in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Prior to taking time off to raise a family, Germain worked as a teacher and coach for middle and high school students. She returned to work at the elementary school-level as a music and physical education/wellness teacher, faith permeation and liturgical leader, and as lead teacher for Kindergarten to Grade 6 literacy and numeracy curriculums.
Germain completed her Masters of Education in Leadership of Learning and Inclusive Education from the University of PEI in 2022.
An active member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Parish, she has served as a music ministry leader for the parish and school division for many years, and outside of the school and parish setting enjoys water sports, hiking, travelling, and gardening.
“I am thrilled to become a part of the traditions within Lakeland Catholic Schools and to enrich student opportunities for building discipleship as servant leaders,” Germain said.
Germain will join Lakeland Catholic Schools as Religious Education Coordinator starting later in 2024.
There are different gifts but the same Spirit; there are different ministries but the same Lord;
there are different works but the same God who accomplishes them in everyone.
To each person the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
