JIlliane Smyl

BONNYVILLE - Once a teacher, always a teacher - a sentiment that rings true for Jilliane Smyl, who is trading in her administrator’s office for a classroom starting September.

“I am thrilled to announce that I will be returning to full-time teaching in the classroom next year while continuing my journey with Lakeland Catholic. Teaching has always been my true passion, and I eagerly anticipate making a direct impact on the students I teach. The prospect of seeing my students thrive and succeed under my guidance fills me with excitement and joy,” Smyl said.

In her current role as Vice Principal of École Dr. Bernard Brosseau Middle School, Smyl spends part of her days teaching, but finds the call of the classroom always present.

For Smyl, the most rewarding aspects of being Vice Principal has been  “the supportive and uplifting work environment,” and witnessing the exceptional school staff excel each and every day.

“Learning from their expertise and dedication has been invaluable to me. It’s truly a privilege to be part of such a dedicated and inspiring community,” Smyl said.

Smyl has been an educator with Lakeland Catholic since 2008, spending her years with the district at Dr. Bernard Brosseau Middle School.

A special highlight Smyl shared from her seven years as Vice Principal, was witnessing three former Grade 5 students return to the school as colleagues, describing it as “an incredibly proud and fulfilling moment.”

“Working in Catholic education is incredibly fulfilling because it allows me to guide students not only in their academic pursuits but also in their spiritual development. The opportunity to positively influence young lives and help them discover their unique gifts and talents is a privilege I cherish,” Smyl said. “I am deeply grateful for the collaborative spirit among colleagues who share a common mission and dedication to our students’ well-being. Each day, I aspire to be a source of light and positivity, reflecting the love and compassion of Jesus in everything we do.”
